Top notes: mandarin, davana. Heart notes: olibanum, narcissus, pittosporum, dark rose, peony. Base notes: patchouli, vanilla, oud, sweet note. Perfumer: Mathieu Nardin. Year of release: 2018. Scherzo was born from a single paragraph of Fitzgerald's novel "Tender Is the Night" — an excerpt about kaleidoscopic peonies, tulips and roses, transparent like sugar flowers from a confectioner's window. The perfumer Mathieu Nardin received only this text as a brief — and created a fragrance in which flowers sound bright, sweet and very colourful. Mandarin with davana gives a juicy, slightly liqueur-like opening, and the heart of olibanum, narcissus, pittosporum, dark rose and peony is lush, sunny, almost festive. Oud in the base here is not gloomy, but smooth and elegant: together with patchouli, vanilla and a sweet note it gives floral lushness depth and a reliable foundation. Scherzo is oud retold in the language of flowers: light, joyful and not at all severe, a fragrance about the French Riviera of the 1930s and the feeling of celebration.
